Not connecting to iSCSI session

Postby jimmurdoch » Fri Oct 10, 2014 6:39 pm

Hi, I have added a Buffalo Terastation to our network an created a iSCSI drive. I can conenct to it using a Windows iSCSI connector.
In the AHSAY UBS Storage > iSCSI I enter all the data.
IP: 192.168.16.5
Target: iqn.2004-08.jp.buffalo.b0c7459f27dc:terastation1
Initiator: iqn.2004-08.jp.buffalo.b0c7459f27dc:terastation1

I see it listed but it has no connection.
When I click on Retry the following message appears in blue:
"The iSCSI session has been created successfully (Target: 192.168.16.5/iqn.2004-08.jp.buffalo.b0c7459f27dc:terastation1)."
But still no connection.

What do I need to do?

Thanks.

Hello Jim.

Do you mind logging to your AhsayUBS server as root using ssh and then run the following commands.

1. iscontrol -vdt 192.168.16.5
2. camcontrol devlist 192.168.16.5
3. df -h

This will verify the connection to the iSCSI and allow us to compare the initiator settings.

The iSCSI drive is mounted by default as /ubs/mnt/esms00

Hello Jim,

I noticed the "camcontrol devlist 192.168.16.5" or "camcontrol devlist" command did not return any output. I would of expected something like

at scbus0 target 0 lun 1 (pass0,da0)

This seems to indicate although you have a connection to the iSCSI device, FreeBSD is not able to see any valid devices. Can you check the setup of the Buffalo Terastation and see of there is a partition configured?

There is a small partition I planned using as a backup temp folder. Is that a problem. The size of the drives total 12TB, 8TB with Raid5.

Hello Jim,

I don't think the issue is related to the size of the partition on the storage device.

Can you try:

1. Disconnect from the iSCSI device on AhsayUBS
2. Destroy an iSCSI initiator entry
3. Remove the existing partition from the Buffalo Terastation
4. Create a new partition and setup it again on AhsayUBS

Note: This time don't connect to new partition using a Windows iSCSI connector.

if you are still unable to connect, please post the latest results for:

1. iscontrol -vdt 192.168.16.5
2. camcontrol devlist

Hi,

Still the same results.
I have removed LVM from the Terastation and created an iSCSI drive with the entire volume.
In Ahsay UBS I still get the same result.
The result of the commands you gave above are also the same.
I have also tried using iqn.2005-01.il.ac.huji.cs:ahsayubs.local as the Initiator name - same result.
The iSCSI has some advanced settings as follows:

Editing iSCSI Volume: tera1

HeaderDigest: None or CRC32 ('None' is selected)
DataDigest: None or CRC32 ('None'is selected)
MaxConnections: 16
InitialR2T: Yes
ImmediateData: Yes
MaxRecvDataSegmentLength: 262144
MaxXmitDataSegmentLength: 262144
MaxBurstLength: 262144
FirstBurstLength: 262144
MaxOutstandingR2T: 1
QueuedCommands: 128
Backstore: File I/O or Block I/O ('File I/O' is selected)
File I/O Write Sync: Synchronous or Asynchronous ('Asynchronous' is selected)
Thin Provisioning: greyed out
Write Cache (WCE): Yes or No ('No' is selected)
LUN: 0

I have tried several times, removing the iSCSI volume and recreating it, using a shorter name. But allow the session is created successfully I still get no connection.

What can I do?

Hello Jim,

Although I am not familiar with Buffalo storage devices, it may worth checking if service such as web server, ftp server, MySQL server, print server, itunes server etc on the device are all disabled.

Still no luck.
I have stopped all other services and applications and rebooted the Terastation.
I still get session ok but NO connection. Nothing shows under Stroage Summary in UBS.

I bought this Terastation because it used iSCSI, as does Ahsay UBS. So what's the problem.
Are there any other commands I can use, as camcontrol devlist 192.168.16.5 returns nothing.

Appreciating your input.

Hello Jim,

Assuming your AhsayUBS is still connected to the iSCSI device.

Do you mind posting a screen shot of the following AhsayUBS webadmin pages:

1. [Storage]>[iSCSI]
2. [Storage]>[Summary]
