OBS with an attached qnap NAS.. connectivity options

Postby PG » Sun Jun 17, 2012 5:43 am

Hi Guys,

We are just about ready to hook a qnap NAS onto our OBS server as this customer has 3TB of Data and likes the idea of having a storage unit he can 'pickup and take away' in the event of a disaster.

From what I read NFS seems to be the best connectivity option (my experience with samba on a qnap nas says samba is not efficient on resources)

Does anyone use NFS to qnap boxes? How does the OBS server handle it if the qnap box 'locks up' ? Im looking at using 'autofs' to handle the connection to it, so that it will automatically 're-mount' if it is available when the share is probed. anyone have any experience with autofs? It look like autofs only mounts a volume when it is probed, not sure if that will be a problem or not because OBS checks a user home every 5 mins or so.
