ACB and NAS

Postby robgratt » Tue Nov 15, 2011 7:52 pm

Quick question:

Can I use ACB to back up a NAS that has been mapped to a drive letter?

Thanks.

Hi,

Me again.

Is this such a dumb question that no one thinks it's worth answering, or is it such a major flaw with ACB that no one wants to talk about it?

A simple 'Yes' or 'No' will do.

Yes, AhsayACB can be used to backup NAS device mapped to the client machine. To do so, simply select the mapped drive for backup under the backup source selection screen within the AhsayACB GUI.

However, we would suggest using a UNC path instead of the mapped drive path as backup source selection.

Please be also reminded to fill in the Windows Network Authentication fields, as well as changing the 'Log on' account of the AhsayACB scheduler services to allow the scheduler services to access the NAS device (Windows Services > Online Backup Scheduler (Ahsay A-Click Backup) > Properties > Log On).

Thanks.

Hi,

Just to clarify:

"fill in the Windows Network Authentication fields" this is the Windows username and password?

and

" the 'Log on' account of the AhsayACB scheduler services to allow the scheduler services to access the NAS device " this is the NAS login username and password?

Sorry for labouring this, but I'm going on site soon and I want to make sure I have this right!

Thanks.

Both are referring to the OS Windows account which can be used to access the NAS device.

Thanks.
